The first edition of the Charlton Standard Catalogue of Canadian Colonial Tokens was released in 1988, more than twenty years ago. The 7th edition of Canadian Colonial Tokens will be released January 29th, 2010.
With the 7th edition, the Charlton Press embarked on a restructure of the original layout of the book. First, we have increased the page size to 7’ x 9” in order to improve the layout and description of the tokens, and allowing space for expanded thumbnail variety images. Second, we have begun the process of improving and extending the variety illustrations for better token identification. Third, the reference numbers for each token listing now includes all major token reference numbers and their rarity numbers: Atkinson, Batty, Bowman, Breton, Courteau, Davis, Haxby-Willey, Ingram, Lees, McLachlan, Raymond, Sandham, Thomson, Willey, Withers, and Wood. Plus, there is a complete reference table of Charlton token catalogue numbers cross-referenced to Breton, Courteau, LeRoux, McLachlan and Willey.
Many sections have been reworked: the Rutherford Bros., the Nova Scotia half-penny counterfeits, the Trade Navigation Tokens of 1813, plus many more. We have improved and added to our listings of Bridge Tokens, Civilian and Military Buttons, Fur Trade Tokens, Merchant Tokens, Transportation Tokens prior 1868, and Non-Canadian Tokens. We have also added a section on Patterns and Fantasies, which are considered part of Colonial Canada.
All prices have been reviewed and updated allowing readers to accurately value their collection. With over three hundred pages filled with information and illustrations of this unique Canadian collectable, Canadian Colonial Tokens is a publication no numismatic enthusiast should be without.
