Canadian Exhibition Fair Carnival Medals is a 560 page, 8 ½” x 11”, hard case book published in a limited edition of 250 copies.
Volume One consists of eleven chapters listing medals under: (1) Foreign Exhibition Medals Relating to Canada; (2) Dominion of Canada Exhibition Medals; (3) Prince Edward Island Provincial Medals; (4) Nova Scotia Provincial Medals; (5) New Brunswick Provincial Medals; (6) Lower Canada / Quebec) Provincial Medals; (7) Upper Canada / Ontario) Provincial Medals; (8) Manitoba Provincial Medals; (9) Northwest Territories, Saskatchewan Provincial Medals; (10) Alberta Provincial Medals; (11) British Columbia Provincial Medals. Each chapter begins with its own index of medals.
The listings: Each medal, souvenir or badge may have the following information: The Title, Medal Number, Obverse Description, Reverse Description, Suspension, Case of Issue (when known), Engraver/Maker; Reference Numbers, Composition, Weight, Diameter, Thickness, Die Axis, and last but not least the Price in two grades (Very Fine and Extremely Fine).
In most cases, the description of the obverse and reverse of the medal is accompanied by an illustration of the medal. Varieties are detailed, where known, and often are accompanied by illustrations.
From the Agricultural Society of Lower Canada to the Dominion Exhibition of Canada, which was held in various Canadian cities, to the Toronto Industrial Exhibition, later the Canadian National Exhibition, to the British Columbia Agricultural Association, Volume One Canadian Exhibition Fair Carnival Medals opens the doors to the awards and souvenirs issued in Canada between 1785 and 1980. Emphasis is placed on the 19th-century medals, with a cross-section of those of the 20th century, giving the collector an insight into the history of Canada as seen through historical medals. The gold, silver, and bronze medals of various exhibitions are illustrated and priced.
